The Finnish photographer Elina Brotherus deals with her own biography, the landscape genre, and art history in her photographs and films. She explores the possibilities of photographic self-dramatization while frequently referring to icons of nineteenth- and twentieth-century painting or, as she does in her recent works, to contemporary art from the 1960s and 1970s. Brotherus was born in Helsinki. She earned an M.S. in analytical chemistry from the University of Helsinki in 1997 and an M.F.A. in photography from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2000. She is considered a prominent member of The Helsinki School. She lives and works in Finland and France.

In 2003 her work was exhibited by the Orange County Museum of Art in Girls’ Night Out. She won a scholarship from the Carnegie Art Award in 2004 and she won the Niépce Prize in 2006. She is proud of being able to produce images taken from nature that are not “Photoshopped”. Her work is primarily autobiographical. She documents her infertility and “involuntary childlessness” in her 2011-2015 series “Carpe Fucking Diem” and 2009-2013 “Annonciation”.

The work of Ad Minoliti (Buenos Aires, 1980) is concerned with the relation between eroticism, queer theory, history and geometry; as well as the anthropological importance and social implications of design. For the artist, geometry is the best tool to represent and investigate a trans-human utopia and heterotopia in which gender theories can be applied to the pictorial language, giving way to new possibilities in which we can experiment and redesign the visual world. Through a wide variety of mediums and expressions, such as painting, installation, sculpture, video and fashion, Minoliti aims to debunk fixed ideas about gender through aesthetic confrontation, while commenting on gender conditions, roles and relations.

Jean Dupuy, Who is She, 1981, Loevenbruck

Jean Dupuy started his artistic career as a painter but shifted his practice when he moved from France to New York in 1967. Dupuy experimented with new technologies, and soon became a prominent figure in the Art and Technology movement.

In 1968 he participated with an inventive sound, light and color installation, Heart Beats Dust, in the landmark exhibition The Machine as Seen at the End of the Mechanical Age at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. In the early 1970s Dupuy started performing collectively with other New York artists, and his loft at 405 East 13th Street turned into a center for these performances. Dupuy also arranged similar events at the Whitney Museum, the Kitchen and the Judson Church. During his time in New York, which lasted until the early 1980s, Dupuy collaborated with over 200 artists, as an organizer of events and as an artist.

Dupuy describes his experiences from these years in the book Collective Consciousness: Art Performances in the Seventies (1980). In the late 1970s Dupuy began a close friendship with George Maciunas, and became loosely associated with the Fluxus group. Over the last two decades he has devoted himself to the study of anagrams, and has published some twenty books on the subject. Dupuy was born in 1925 in France. He lives and works in Roquesteron, France.

Vivian Caccuri A Gentil Carioca

Viviane Caccuri.png

VivianCaccuri, Pagode Cuatro Burracos, 2018, A Gentil Carioca

Vivian Caccuri uses sound as the vehicle to cross experiments in sensory perception with issues related to history and social conditioning. Through objects, installations, and performances, her pieces create situations that disorient everyday experience and, by extension, disrupt meanings and narratives seemingly as ingrained as the cognitive structure itself. Vivian has developed projects in many cities in Brazil and abroad, including the Amazon, Accra, Detroit, Helsinki, Vienna, Veneza, Kiev, Valparaíso, New Mexico, South India and more.

Throughout her career she has collaborated with several musicians such as Arto Lindsay (USA/BR), Gilberto Gil (BR), Fausto Fawcett (BR), Wanlov (Ghana) and has recently released her first musical project (Homa). Her sound works and compositions have been broadcasted in radio stations such as Resonance FM (London), Kunstradio (Vienna) and Rádio Mirabilis (Rio de Janeiro). At Princeton University she wrote her first book “Music is What I Make” (2012), published in Brazil and awarded by Funarte Prize of Critical Production in Music in 2013.
