TONI HERVAS | CORDOVA GALLERY
Toni Hervas, Orfeo y la montaña sumergida, 2013, Cordova Gallery
Toni Hervas is an artist who works across media including painting sculpture installation and performance, yet the drawing is always a central tenet. Featured on the back wall of the booth at Swab Art Fair 2019 is a large scale three panel drawing the artist completed in 2013. It’s source material is an underwater mermaid show Weeki Wachee Springs in Western Florida. While the narrative of the drawing a began at this roadside attraction, it has been lavishly elaborated and clashed with a mythological story into a cosmos of its own. Submerged, floating and flying, the human, animal and the fantastic beings that populate the dense drawing give a glimpse into Hervas’ meticulous and imaginative mind.
